The Junior Leaders of Hunterdon County 4-H group re-potted 115 viola flowers recently to give to Meals on Wheels clients as a nice complement with their meals.
Meals on Wheels is a non-profit agency that assists the elderly and disabled in Hunterdon by delivering nutritious, hot meals to them. Many of the clients have great difficulty leaves their homes.
The Junior Leaders sent “a big thank-you” to the Hionis Greenhouses in Whitehouse Station “for the lovely flower donations.”
As a club, the members worked together in separate stations to complete the task. In the first station, they filled the cups up with soil, and in the following stations, they planted the violas, then each young plant was passed to someone who finished filling the cups with soil and watered them.
Lastly, the members put each viola into a bag with beautiful ribbons, curled and tied. “This is just one of many activities we do throughout the year, with an aim towards community service and teen leadership,” the club noted.
