05/22/2020 - 2:41 pm Recovered Stolen Vehicle: P.O, Timothy Ammann, P.O. Luis Vasquez, P.O. Tiller Uriarte, P.O. John Kelly, P.O. Peter Federico & Sgt. Sean Macys responded to Campbell Road near River Road on a report of a stolen vehicle that was being tracked by GPS. Upon arrival, four males were removed from the 2019 Mercedes-Benz, reported stolen out of Jersey City: Michael Johnson, age 30 of Brooklyn, NY; Chad Watson, age 24 of Lawrence, NY; Jahvis Lambert, age 22 of Brooklyn, NY; and Joseph Algernon, age 28 of Brooklyn, NY.
Johnson, Watson & Lambert were released after being charged with receiving stolen property and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Algernon, who had an arrest warrant out of Miami-Dade County, FL, was charged with receiving stolen property, 2 counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance & possession of drug paraphernalia, then was sent to Bergen County Jail to await extradition.
A 5th male, DeVaughn Binda, age 22 of Brooklyn, NY, was the operator of a 2014 Chevy Camaro that was parked directly behind the Mercedes. He was arrested after it was determined that the Camaro had been rented from Elite Auto Sport (15-01 River Road) with fraudulent identification. He was released after being charged with possession of a false government document & receiving stolen property.
05/27/2020 - 1:44 am Recovered Stolen Vehicle: P.O. Eric Eleshewich, P.O. Brian Goodson, Det. Chris O׳Shaughnessy, Det. Brian Rypkema, Det. Anthony Lugo, Det. Paul Donohue, Det. Mark Wyka & Det/Sgt. Nicholas Snyder responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on 17th Street near Willow Street, with a party from the vehicle approaching parked vehicle and pulling on door handles. Upon finding and stopping the 2004 Mercedes-Benz, it was determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of East Orange. The operator, a 17-year-old female from Newark, was arrested along with 2 passengers: Sheironda Geffrard, age 20 of Orange, and Marquise Napier, age 22 of Newark.
The juvenile was released to a family member and will be charged in family court with receiving stolen property. Geffrard was released after being charged with receiving stolen property. Napier, who was found with heroin, crack cocaine & marijuana and had an arrest warrant out of Newark, was charged with receiving stolen property & 3 counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, then was handed over to Newark Police.
05/27/2020 10:22 am Narcotics: P.O. Tiller Uriarte, P.O. John Kelly & P.O. Peter Federico responded to the parking lot of 7-Eleven, 31-28 Broadway, on a report of a male operator slumped over the wheel. Upon arrival, the officers were able to wake Thomas Russo, age 31 of Bethel, CT, then arrest him after marijuana was discovered inside the vehicle. Arrest warrants were located out of Bergen County (no bail), Hackensack ($5,000) & Paterson ($2,500). He was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance & operating with a suspended license, then was handed over to the Bergen County Sheriff׳s Department.
Chief Glen Cauwels stated all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
