CHATHAM, NJ - On October 31, 2020, at 10:36 p.m., Chatham Township Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Fairmount Avenue for a complaint of a large party where underage drinking was taking place. Upon their arrival, Officers observed approximately 40 underage individuals drinking alcohol inside the residence and who were also failing to observe social distancing and other guidelines in violation of the Governor’s Executive Orders.
Contact was made with the homeowner, J. Rai 45 of Chatham, who admitted to having knowledge about the gathering. Further investigation revealed that those in attendance at the party were aged between 16 and 17 years old. Officers contacted all of the juvenile’s guardians, who responded to the residence to assume custody of their children. Subsequently, Mr. Rai was charged by Detective Dave Gallo with allowing the underage consumption of alcohol at his residence as well as violations of Executive Orders 152 and 157. Mr. Rai was released pending a future municipal court date.
