Bremen Associates, owner of the Deats complex on Main Street Flemington, have watched the steady decline of Borough businesses as a direct result of The Friends of Historic Flemington never ending lawsuits to stop redevelopment of the Union Hotel. The developer has agreed to historic preservation of the three buildings and reduced the heights and number of apartments in response to the publicly stated demands of the “Friends” without any positive response from them. The developer is willing to meet with and attempt to compromise to settle the suits.

The resulting delays have led to the loss of the college and medical elements of the project. The hotel building is in imminent danger of collapse and will only be preserved if the developer is allowed to proceed quickly. Further delays do not work in favor of historic preservation. Main Street businesses struggle to survive in this climate of low hoot traffic and highly publicized adversity.

Bremen Associates, along with a group of fellow businessmen, are committed to taking legal action against The Friends of Historic Flemington to allow the project to move forward. Bremen Associates has committed an initial contribution to the legal proceedings of $5,000.00.

In light of the disastrous impact of Covid 19 on the already struggling Main Street businesses, Bremen Associates is willing to purchase $5,000 in gift certificates from affected stores and hand them out to residents, if the “Friends” arrange to settle their lawsuits before April 1st, 2020. We would also encourage like-minded businesses and residents to do the same, to the extent that we may save some of those businesses that have served us all through such difficult times. Our sincere hope is that the “Friends” recognize the concessions the developer has made and at the same time recognize the financial damage their law suits and Covid 19 have done.
