As you are aware, we are in unprecedented times with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and there is no set ending. This unknown has a major impact on the operations of the Feast of Saint Anthony scheduled for June 2 – 6, 2020. We have to consider the safety and well-being of our parishioners, visitors, volunteers and vendors. Keep in mind the area is a tight space and some of the products we need to provide for food and beverage may be off the shelves.
The Core Committee of the Feast of Saint Anthony met on Monday, March 16 to discuss the fate of the Feast. We deeply regret to inform you that everyone agreed to cancel this year’s OLC Feast of Saint Anthony. It was a thought out and difficult decision to make but all factors were considered. This will take away the enjoyment from a week of fun including rides, games, food and fellowship. It will be a loss in profit for the church. But, the Committee will never put anyone’s life in jeopardy just to make a profit.
The possibility of rescheduling this event is unrealistic due to the unknown length of the virus. Public officials directives and consultation with the Diocese of Metuchen were included in the decision not to reschedule.
You, our volunteers and guests, are the heart of this feast, and we want you to know we appreciate you very much. This event each year would not be a success without your time and talents. We trust that we will find other means to recover some of the loss due to this cancellation.
We thank you for your understanding of this difficult decision. We pray that you will stay in good health through this crisis. Our faith and trust is in the Holy Spirit to guide us during this difficult time.
