Both the boys and girls team take home titles at 2021 Mid-Atlantic Region Christian Schools Tournament
SPARTA, NJ– In what has been a unique year for high school sports, Veritas Christian Academy aimed to start a tournament tradition. Not only was Veritas the host school for the 2021 Mid-Atlantic Region Christian Schools (MARCS) Basketball Tournament, but they claimed the title in both the girls and boys brackets.
For the Veritas girls, this was simply business as usual as it is the 5th straight year that they have won a regional tournament. For Veritas boys, this is their first regional tournament title since the ‘15-’16 season, and was another hurdle to overcome as they improved their record to 15-0.
Lead by senior forward, Rose Hockman, and junior guard, Charlotte Milanesi, the girls team beat American Christian School on Friday night and then The Pilgrim Academy on Saturday afternoon en route to their title. The boys team won against Trinity Christan School and then Somerset Bible Baptist Christian Academy in the championship game with seniors Ethan Mulder and Simon Valkema paving the way to the tournament win.
Veritas Christian Academy still has work to do. In the coming weeks the boys and girls teams will head to the National Christian School Athletic Association tournament in Pennsylvania where they will face off against a field of 56 teams from across the country. For a high school with under 100 students it is incredible to see how they can not only compete but win against schools that are two to three times their size.
