Our newsletter delivers the local news that you can trust.

Republican candidates (Marc Hain, Kim Tilly),

Democratic candidates (Liz Rosetti, Malik Johnston).

However, the Republican candidates did not respond to multiple communications to TAPinto's invitation to participate.

Questions were solicited from residents and business owners in Flemington Borough on issues of current concern, and TAPinto chose those which most widely represent the community attempting to cover as many issues as possible.

Candidate Forum Guidelines:

  • Opening Statements: After a coin flip, each candidate will get 90 seconds to make an opening statement - each side getting a total of three minutes.  The winners of the coin flip will get the choice to give opening remarks first or second. [Closing remarks will be in reverse order].
  • There will be several rounds of questions as time permits, in the following manner:
  • Candidates A have a total of up to three minutes to answer each question and may split up that time in whichever way they wish.
  • Candidates B have a total of up to two minutes for a rebuttal and may split up that time in whichever way they wish.
  • Candidates B have a total of up to three minutes to answer each question and may split up that time in whichever way they wish.
  • Candidates A have a total of up to two minutes for a rebuttal and may split up that time in whichever way they wish.
  • This patterned question format will continue with each side alternating in answers and rebuttals. Most often in a candidate forum, there is time for six to ten questions.
  • Closing Statements: Each candidate will get 90 seconds to make a closing statement. Closing statements will be in reverse order of opening statements.
  • Moderator has the discretion to ask questions of clarification of candidates and allow candidates to have 5 seconds leeway to finish their thoughts.
  • The timekeeper will use three color-coded time cards: Green for one-minute warning; Yellow 15 seconds; Red for times up.

The moderator for the Candidate Forum will be Steve Chernoski, a teacher, writer, and film director of “New Jersey: the Movie”, an award-winning documentary. Mr. Chernoski has moderated candidate forums for the US House of Representatives, the State Legislature, and Gubernatorial races. He resides with his family in Lambertville.
