SUMMIT, NJ - A third Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School student -- the fourth Summit student overall -- has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a letter sent from the Summit Public School District to the 'Summit Public Schools Community' and subsequently obtained by TAPinto Summit.

The previous two confirmed middle school cases came just days apart, while another case -- at Summit's Brayton Elementary School -- was confirmed two days ago.

The letter, from Superintendent of Schools Scott Hough and Principal Donna Gallo, states, "This positive case had an out-of-school link to the previous cases from earlier this month, and the student has been under quarantine since that investigation. To date, all of our positive cases are connected to the same out-of-school event from earlier this month."

The letter added, "Officials from the Department of Health say no close contacts at school were established in this recent case. They did not recommend closing any classrooms, programs, or schools. We thank the family for following health guidelines by proactively keeping their student home and quarantining for the health of the school community."
