PATERSON, NJ - As flames ravaged 40 Cianci Street Monday, displacing 50 residents from 19 apartments, Tammy Rivera knew some of her children were probably impacted, she told TAPinto Paterson. As it turned out, she was right.

A secretary at School 2 for 29 years, Rivera considers every student that passes through her office, or the hallways, her own, and is concerned about their welfare, both inside the school and out. “I care so much about them all,” she said. “We are all family."

After spending hours on the scene helping to hand out water bottles and doing what she could to make sure the victims had other resources they needed, Rivera, along with Tristan Jones, a technology teacher at School 2, decided to launch a GoFundMe page to raise money for the families that “lost everything.”

Having lost her own home to a fire as a child, Rivera also knows the challenges these families will face. “No one can do as much as they’d like to” to help, Rivera said, another reason she and Jones immediately got involved.

With a goal of $10,000 the effort, to date, stands just shy of $2,300. The dollars, Rivera said, will be split between the eight families whose children attend School 2 to help them “get things they can’t from other agencies.

“I wish I could help everybody,” Rivera concluded.
