HAMBURG, NJ – Sparta High School was well represented at the Wallkill Valley Invitational art show with Sparta artists taking home first place in photography and third in sculpture.

Kaitlyn Cioc earned her blue ribbon and a $50 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials for her photo “Serenity.”

Heather Maxwell’s sculpture “Losing Ground” earned third place recognition by the judges and a $10 gift certificate to Blick.

Cioc’sand Maxwell’s talents were recently recognized at the Roxbury High School Art Show.

The virtual awards ceremony was hosted by Vanessa Hasbrook, President of the Wallkill Valley Regional High School chapter of the National Art Society.

The show included pieces from 16 high schools and four middle schools. The high schools were judged in eight categories including: Drawing/ Illustration Black and White, Drawing/Illustration Color, Painting, Mixed Media, Photo, Digital Media/Video, Sculpture/Crafts and Pottery. 

The judges were Devon Lee of Savannah College of Art and Design or SCAD, Ryan Carroccino of Montserrat College of Art, Andrea Geller of William Patterson University and Brienne Rosner of Peter’s Valley School of Craft.

Students submitted pieces from:

  • High Point Regional High School,
  • Hopatcong High School,
  • Kittatinny Regional High School,
  • Lenape Valley Regional High School,
  • Montville High School,
  • Mount Olive High School,
  • Roxbury High School,
  • Sparta High School.
  • Vernno High School,
  • Wallkill Valley Regional High School,
  • Warren Hills High School,
  • Warwick Valley High School and
  • West Milford High School.
  • Middle school participants included Eisenhower Middle School, Glen Meadow Middle School, Hamburg School, Hardyston Junior High School and Kittatinny Middle School.

Blick donated the gift certificates, according to show officials.
