NEWARK, NJ - Pillar College welcomed its first cohort of international students from South Korea, ranging in age from 16-18, to the Somerset Campus. This inaugural class of students is anticipated to be the first of many in this exciting new venture as Pillar College partners with the International Mission and Good Shepherd Church to train up a new generation of transformational leaders.

By their second day of attendance, the students were already filling the halls (socially distanced) with enthusiastic energy and a spirit of service - presenting a dynamic worship session and two praise dances for the staff and faculty during a new student orientation.

“I believe these students will integrate well with our domestic students and that as “iron will sharpen iron” everyone will benefit,” said Dr. Wayne Dyer, Vice President of Strategic Alliances, about the nine students who are currently a part of the program. “It is my prayer that all of our students may know the presence of God and a rich fellowship with Him. I am convinced that this is the Lord’s doing and it has come to pass in His time. We do look forward to welcoming many more cohorts in the days ahead.”

The arrival of these students and their enrollment at Pillar College is the culmination of a year of discussions with President Dr. David E. Schroeder, Dr. Dyer, Dr. Chester Kim, Pastor of Good Shepherd Church (Bernardsville, NJ) and Rev. Michael Cho, President of International Mission (IM). The collaborative goal of all members is to provide holistic academic and spiritual training for these students and fulfill Pillar College's mission to educate, inspire and equip students for leadership and service.

"The collaboration between International Mission, Good Shepherd Church and Pillar College is rewarding on so many levels. This partnership enables Pillar College to expand our mission of equipping graduates to become transformational leaders on both a local and global scale. And after a year of vision-casting, planning, and coordination - the arrival of these enthusiastic and motivated students is a prayer answered and a vision realized!" said Amy Huber, Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Pillar College's DEED program (Dual Enrollment Education) allows these high school students to complete college level academic courses while also completing their final requirements toward a high school diploma. These students already possess moderate proficiency of the English language but also have access to English as a Second Language (ESL) support to strengthen their conversational language skills.

In addition to their academic coursework, students will receive further ministry training at their host center, Good Shepherd Church and engage in evangelism and service to the surrounding community. Upon completion of the Associate's Degree, these students will be well positioned to pursue a Bachelor's Degree at Pillar College, or transfer to their preferred choice of accredited institutions to pursue advanced studies and additional career/ministry training.
