HAWTHORNE, NJ - A family lined up on designated spots at the entrance of the municipal pool as "Boys of Summer" by Don Henley played over the loudspeakers. Today was the first day the borough opened the gates of the pool to its residents, and there were plenty of people who decided to beat the heat and take a dip.

Signs were posted informing visitors of the pool's new safety steps. Guests were asked to wear a cloth face covering when not in the water in addition to the general COVID-19 guidelines for health and safety, such as hand washing and keeping six feet apart.

A worker shared that there seemed to be a steady flow of visitors as the morning passed, but it was still too early to say if the first day opened would be a busy one. Time will tell if the town's residents will be comfortable enough with the updated safety procedures to frequent the municipal pool as the summer continues.
