HALEDON, NJ - Three Haledon Police Officers, Lt. George Guzman, Detective-Sergeant Timothy Lindberg, and Detective Christian Clavo conducted an arrest which yielded drugs and a weapon on Friday, February, 26, according to the Haledon Police Department.
At 3:53 p.m. last Friday, the three officers were carrying out surveillance along Belmont Avenue when Sgt. Lindberg reported that a Haledon woman, Sandy Layfield, 46, had a "hand to hand transaction" with a Paterson man, Eric Garcia, 46. Lt. Guzman and Det. Clavo approached Garcia "with the intentions of stopping him for further investigation" when he showed them his hands and informed the police that he had a gun. Garcia was immediately placed under arrest and a 9mm handgun was discovered in his waistband.
The police said that they found three containers of crack cocaine in the left pocket of Garcia's jacket. Garcia was charged with firearms and drug-related offenses and taken to the Passaic County Jail.
Layfield was charged with loitering to commit a CDS offense and released with a court appearance due.
