Students in the Summit High School Wind Ensemble had the opportunity to work with nationally renowned wind band conductor, Dr. Thomas McCauley from Montclair University. This was made possible by a grant from SEF. McCauley has most recently conducted the Region I and II Wind Ensembles and will be conducting the All State Wind Ensemble this February.

McCauley worked with the students for over two hours on aspects of playing in an ensemble at a high level, ie musicality, pitch, and listening skills. Steven Rapp, SHS music teacher and wind ensemble conductor says, “Every time I see Dr. McCauley work it is worth fifteen hours of graduate level music class. He has the ability to teach and inspire like no other person. He is an incredibly dynamic teacher and the students got so much out of it.”

The students all agreed that, “He is a fantastic conductor.”
