During the period between August 3 to August 9, 2020 members of the GRPD handled 405 calls for service, the highlights of which included:

08-03-2020 - 12:18 PM – A Waldron Avenue resident reported that during the early morning hours of August 1, person(s) unknown entered two unlocked vehicles parked in their driveway.  The vehicles were rummaged through, however, nothing appeared to be missing.      

08-03-2020 - 3:09 PM – Patrols were dispatched to the strip mall on Prospect Street to investigate a report of a male subject laying at the side of the building unconscious. Upon arrival, officers located a 49-year-old Wyckoff man in a highly intoxicated state. The subject was unable to walk without assistance and could not care for himself.  He was subsequently transported by ambulance to New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus for detox.

08-03-2020 - 3:13 PM – A Hazelhurst Avenue resident reported the theft of two bicycles which reportedly occurred over the weekend. 

08-03-2020 - 5:23 PM – A Glen Rock couple reported receiving unsolicited debit cards in the mail. Upon contacting the customer service number listed on the cards, they learned that the cards had been sent based upon an unemployment claim filed in Colorado in both of their names. The couple attempted to contact unemployment officials in Colorado to report the identity theft only to be informed that there would be a multiple week wait before someone would be able to call them back.  

The detective bureau is attempting to follow-up with authorities in Colorado in this matter. 

08-03-2020 - 5:47 PM – A resident on the 500 block of Doremus Avenue reported that person(s) unknown entered his unlocked vehicle while it was parked in the driveway overnight. The vehicle was rummaged through, however, nothing appeared to be missing from the vehicle.  

08-04-2020 - 3:25 PM – A grey 2020 Buick Encore stopped for a red light on Maple Avenue at Ackerman Avenue and was struck from behind by a black pickup truck which subsequently fled the scene. Anyone who may have witnessed this hit and run accident and who may be able to identify the pickup truck, is asked to contact the Glen Rock Police Department at (201) 652-3800.    

08-05-2020 - 3:08 PM – A resident on the 200 block of Fairmount Avenue reported that a 9-foot patio umbrella was missing from his backyard.  The resident believed that it had been stolen sometime overnight between August 3rd and August 4th.     

08-06-2020 - 3:26 PM – The Manager of Bottle King reported that a male customer had asked to use the restroom in the store. The customer was advised that was not possible due to COVID-19 restrictions which were in place. The man then proceeded to defecate on the floor of a store aisle and left the building.  Detectives are attempting to identify the subject and the store manager was advised of the procedure to sign a complaint under the Glen Rock Borough Ordinance, which prohibits individuals from defecating or urinating in public view.   

08-07-2020 - 1:04 PM – A Glen Rock man reported that he had been the victim of a rental scam by an actor who posted a fraudulent Airbnb posting for a rental property in Washington D.C.  Following what appeared to be a legitimate transaction, the victim made a wire transfer of $ 5,690 to secure the purported rental. When he arrived in Washington D.C., he learned that he had been the victim of a fraud.  The detective bureau is currently reviewing the matter.  

08-07-2020 - 6:50 PM – A vehicle stolen from an Oaklynn Place residence on August 1st was recovered in West Orange.  The owner was notified, and the detective bureau is following up with the recovering authority to determine if there is any actionable evidence.  

08-07-2020 - 3:04 PM – The owner of a property under development on the 100 block of Rock Road reported that person(s) unknown forced entry to a detached garage on the property. Once inside the actors stole tools with an estimated value of $600, a hunting bow and arrow set and damaged the interior of the garage. The scene was processed by crime scene detectives from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department BCI who assisted Glen Rock detectives.  The matter is currently under investigation.  

08-07-2020 - 6:46 PM – Patrols were dispatched to the CVS Store on Rock Road in response to a call from the manager reporting a shoplifting in progress.  The actors had used a “booster bag” to defeat the store’s theft detection system and fled with stolen over the counter medication – Pepcid and Probiotic.  They were subsequently located with the assistance of Fair Lawn Police at the CVS Store on River Road where the store’s Loss Prevention Officer had detained them for shoplifting at that location.  After confirming their identify as the actors at the Glen Rock CVS, P.O. Sarah Orsita arrested both actors, two women ages 43 and 24, both from Brooklyn, NY.  After being charged in Fair Lawn, the women were transported back to Glen Rock Police HQ where they were each charged with Shoplifting and Possession of Burglar Tools.  Both were processed and released pending an appearance in Glen Rock Municipal Court.
