SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The driver of a blue 2015 Dodge Dart attempting to elude a Scotch Plains police officer on Rahway Road lost control of his automobile and crashed into a vehicle backing out of a driveway on Lenape Way last Friday, Jan. 15.

Patrolman Andrew Gitto attempted to stop the driver later identified as Randell S. Williamson, age 33, of Piscataway, for a motor vehicle violation. Williamson fled the scene on the crash on foot, and numerous officers from multiple agencies responded and set up a perimeter was set up. The Union County Sheriff’s Department responded with a K9 unit, and the suspect was found hiding in a tree line on Raritan Rd. He was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect was transported to police headquarters for processing and was charged with driving under the influence, aggravated assault, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest. He later was transported to the Union County Jail.

The Scotch Plains resident who was struck was identified as a 44-year-old female, who complained of pain in her right shoulder, hip and back after the crash. She was taken by ambulance for medical treatment.
