LIVINGSTON, NJ — Over the last two weeks, the Livingston Health Department (LHD) has reported 134 cases of COVID-19 among Livingston residents, including 99 cases in the first 12 days of April compared to 77 cases in the first 12 days of March.

Although there has been no age report provided thus far in April, data in March indicated that slightly more than 51% of the 239 cases were reported among people 30 years or younger. Data from the end of March and the first two weeks of April also show an increase in the rate of transmission within the community in recent weeks with a five-day rolling average of 9.6 new cases per day as of Friday.

In response to the breakdown of COVID-19 cases reported in Livingston in March as well as the “new, more-transmissible variants of COVID-19 [that] are spreading in the community,” Mayor Shawn Klein once again urged residents to follow guidelines and to consider getting vaccinated as soon as possible.

“This is a reminder that current New Jersey guidelines dictate that indoor gatherings are limited to 25 people with masking and six feet of spacing still required,” the mayor said in a public statement over the weekend. “Livingston had a high number of cases in March, and indoor parties are likely a major cause. In addition, for your own benefit as well as those around you, make sure to get vaccinated as soon as you are eligible.”

Only two new deaths attributed to the novel coronavirus have been recorded among Livingston residents in 2021, and no deaths have been reported since Feb. 6.

All New Jersey residents over the age of 16 will be eligible to receive the vaccine on April 19. For vaccine-related questions or help scheduling an appointment, Essex County residents should call the county call center at 973-877-8456 or the state number at 855-568-0545.
