BLOOMFIELD, NJ-- Michele Harriott wants your vote. No, the Bloomfield resident and chef is not running for public office. She’s trying to win the Favorite Chef competition. The challenge, in which chefs from around the globe are invited to compete in an exclusive online competition to be named the world's Favorite Chef. The winner receives $50,000 and is featured in a two-page advertising spread in Bon Appétit announcing the winner
Born and raised in North Newark, Michele and her husband moved to the Brookdale section of Bloomfield in 2008. They have two sons, Chris (10) and Matthew (7).
Harriott has been cooking professionally since 2000, but prior to that, her early years of the service industry started as a bakery counter girl, selling fruits and veggies with her Grandfather on his truck, waitressing, front of house manager, cheese monger, fruit basket maker, hot dog truck vendor, wine and beer sales, private jet catering, pizza maker and food demonstrations. Not to mention all the dishes she has washed in the process. She was on Chopped, season 16/episode 9.
“Winning this contest would help me pursue my dream of opening my French macaron business, MichMacs (@michmacsnj on IG) as a brick and mortar shop,” said Harriott.
Prior to August, Michele was the executive chef at the Horseneck Tavern in North Caldwell, but with school full-time virtually in Bloomfield, She was left with no choice but to stay home with her children. “I would love to be able to reclaim my career on my own terms. The prize money and “advertorial” in Bon Appétit would be amazing.”
