Meet Elliott Kalan, a children's book author and former head writer of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart!
Elliott is excited to read his new picture book, Sharko and Hippo, and talk about what a writer does, how books are made, and whether he can draw sharks (he can't). As a child in Millburn, NJ, Elliott decided to be a writer — but only after realizing he'd never get a job as a dinosaur. Now he's written picture books (Horse Meets Dog and Sharko and Hippo); comic books (like Marvel's Spider-Man and the X-Men); and TV shows like The Who Was? Show, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (where he won four Emmy Awards and co-wrote the bestselling Earth: The Book), and Mystery Science Theater 3000: the Return. He also co-hosts the movie podcast The Flop House and the history podcast Presidents Are People, Too! Now he lives in Los Angeles, where he still can't find work as a dinosaur.
We made arrangements with the Los Angeles children's book store, Once Upon a Time, where you can order the book and Elliott will sign it personally for your child! You can place your order between now and February 28 in order to get a signed copy. You may also order Elliott's previous book, Horse Meets Dog. All orders will be shipped to the library, so there won't be any shipping charges. You will be able to pick up your books through our Library Takeout service.
