LONDON, U.K. -- TAPintoTV’s Executive Producer Brian Brodeur caught up with actor Greg Canestrari, an American currently living in London. Canestrari talked about some of his past and future work and shared his experiences of living across the pond.
One of the roles Canestrari is best known for is the part of Jerry Delucci in the Netflix series Lilyhammer, which has the distinction of being the first original series produced by the online streaming network. The show starred Steven Van Zandt, of Sopranos and E Street Band fame, who was “a joy to work with,” Canestrari said, “a lovely guy.”
Lilyhammer is a show about a New York-based gangster named Frank "The Fixer" Tagliano trying to start a new life in Lillehammer, Norway, where the show was actually filmed. “People that loved The Sopranos will love Lilyhammer--same type of comedy, rhythm and the vibe,” Canestrari said.
One of Canestrari’s recent projects is the film Last Town Standing, which premiered this year on Amazon Prime Video. Greg stars as Danny, a shady overseas buyer of a factory in a small town. “I’m still the bad guy,” Canestrari joked. He described the movie as “a lighthearted family film and it’s great for the time as well.”
Other recent credits include Tim Burton’s Dumbo, Stan & Ollie, and the Hulu series Das Boot. Canestrari also has a background in musical theater, and is an accomplished singer. Prior to the pandemic, Canestrari could sometimes be found in one of London’s many music clubs, performing standards on piano.
Canestrari, who grew up in the Boston area and attended Emerson College, has been living in London for the past twenty years. “You get to be sort of a bigger fish in a smaller pond, but it’s still a pretty big pond here,” Canestrari said. “The competition is still pretty tough.”
