WESTFIELD NJ - On June 14, 2012 the Westfield Area Y participated in a “record-breaking” global swim event. There were 43 Community swimmers of all ages who took part of The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ to help break the Guinness World Record. The whistle blew promptly at 11:00 am to begin the event and participants swam until the sound of the whistle at 11:30 am. The 43 swimmers were officially recorded and included as part of this amazing, life-saving, Guinness World Record ™ setting event and help prevent drowning. Tragically, drowning remains the second leading cause of injury-related death of children ages 1-14. The event concluded with a drawing for two fun-filled summer swim baskets.
