WESTFIELD, NJ — The town’s first direct train to New York City arrived in Westfield on time Monday morning, at about 9:16 a.m., where residents waited to take their “one-seat” ride on the Raritan Valley Line. Mayor Andy Skibitsky called it “an historic day.”

“It’s not everything we want yet, but it’s a start,” said Skibitsky shortly before he boarded the train with Westfield Town Council members Mark LoGrippo and Frank Arena and Town Administrator Jim Gildea. “I’m optimistic that eventually we’ll get all one-seat rides.”

The new "one-seat" service operates Monday through Friday on eastbound trains starting from either High Bridge or Raritan train stations and arriving in New York Penn Station from 10:09 a.m. to 2:13 p.m. Direct westbound trains leave Manhattan from 10:44 a.m. to 2:39 p.m. For more on the schedule, click here.

“I’ve been waiting for many years for this event to occur,” said Martin Robins, a Raritan Valley Rail Coalition trustee and a long-time proponent of the one-seat ride who has lived in Westfield for over 40 years. “The beginning of the one-seat ride here is a very satisfying addition.”
