BOUND BROOK, NJ — David Hurling, 26, of Westfield has been identified by NJ Transit as the man who was killed today when he was struck by a train on the Raritan Valley line east of the Bridgewater rail station.

According to NJ Transit Public Relations Department, the accident occurred just before 1 p.m. on Aug. 5 when a Newark-bound passenger train with 35 customers on board struck and fatally injured Hurling. No other injuries were reported.

“The investigation continues, focused on exactly why the trespasser was on our tracks,” said Nancy Snyder, a spokesperson for NJ Transit.

Service on the Raritan Valley Line was suspended for about an hour in both directions due to the incident and resumed just before 2:30 pm.
