WOHS Student Wins First Prize at Hispanic Heritage Month Art Show

West Orange, NJ -  Yvanna Cabrera, a senior at West Orange High School, won first prize for her artwork entitled "The Influence of Che" during the Hispanic Leadership Network Art Show. Novartis Pharmaceuticals hosted the event, which displayed over 100 works from high school students at the Morris Museum.j  The theme of the event was "Hispanic Influences in Today¹s World".

Yvanna is currently a senior at West Orange High School.  She created her piece this past spring in a Printmaking Unit in her Art  class, said Diane LaPenta, Yvanna's Art teacher. Yvanna takes Advanced Placement Art with Ms. LaPenta.  For her first place award, Yvanna received a ribbon and an IPad.

This is the fifth year that Novartis Pharmaceuticals has hosted the art show. The West Orange School district was connected to the event through Jennifer Paull, a fourth grade teacher at Redwood Elementary School, and Lou Quagliato, Supervisor of Fine Arts for the district. In addition to participation in the art show, several WOHS students went to Novartis during October to participate in their annual Disability Mentoring Day.
