WEST ORANGE, NJ Beginning with the Spring Coaching staff, West Orange High School is now requiring all coaches to reapply for their coaching positions. The notice was posted on the http://www.woboe.org website for internal candidates, and in the New Jersey Star Ledger for external candidates, among other venues. Spring coaching positions include Baseball, Boys Tennis, Golf, LaCrosse, Softball, and Spring Track. The deadline for submission is December 18 and applicants will respond to Ron Bligh, Athletic Director at the High School. Ultimately, the recommendations for coaches will be made by Mr. Bligh, Interim Superintendent Jim O'Neill, and Principal Hayden Moore.
School districts regularly require reapplication for coaching positions. Interim Superintendent O'Neill commented on the postings by saying:
"We have many fine coaches and I suspect many of them will get reappointed. However, many of our coaching positions have not been open for several years. We thought it would be a healthy process to see what qualified candidates might be interested in coaching at WOHS. I suspect there are a number of well qualified coaches both in and out of the district who might be interested in filling some of these time intensive positions, which require a great deal of dedication, but offer great rewards to both coaches and student athletes. Finally, we are determined to impress upon our students that we are a school that believes you are a student first and an athlete second. We also believe there are many students who will be successful in class and on the field of competition, but the two are not mutually exclusive."
Coaches in fall and winter sports will also need to reapply as the fall and winter seasons approach.
