Juveniles Charged with Marijuana Possession

On April 20 at 7:53 AM, Patrolman Wayne Shivers investigated an accident at the intersection of Fairmount Avenue and Second Street. A 2007 Honda driven by Mary Stokes-Henick age 53 of Chatham, was entering Fairmount Avenue when she was struck by a vehicle travelling north on Fairmount. The second vehicle was a 2009 Honda driven by Jayne Kasarda age 55 of Chatham. There were no injuries reported and Stokes-Henick was issued a summons for Careless Driving.

On April 20 at 1:57 PM Patrolman Shivers investigated a motorcycle accident on River Road at Watchung Avenue. A 2005 Kawasaki driven by Kenneth Pecca age 45 of New Providence crashed when his motorcycle skidded on gravel. Pecca suffered a minor injury to his forearm and no summonses were issued.

On April 23 at approximately 3:00 PM, patrols responded to the end of Tallmadge Avenue on a report of some juveniles in the woods. Two girls were observed parking a car on Tallmadge and then walking into the woods. Patrolman Brian Maher and Patrolman Wayne Shivers walked into the woods and encountered two girls who showed signs of smoking marijuana. A burning marijuana cigarette was found and both girls were arrested. A 17 year old girl from Chatham Borough, was arrested and released to a parent pending further action by the Juvenile Detective. The other girl, Michelle Chase age 18 of Chatham Township, was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. She was processed and released pending further court action.
