Far Hills Country Day School’s eighth grade student Caroline Kellogg was recently named a winner in the state of New Jersey for the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Promising Young Writers contest. Kellogg was one of only three students named as winners in the state. The contest recognizes talented young writers in eighth grade across the country and U.S. territories.

Her winning contest piece is titled Space in the Past and Present. The following is an excerpt from the piece:

The white sail trembled in the sea’s zephyr, as the man’s mind swelled with excitement. He was going somewhere called ‘America.’ The soft word in his mind rhymed with heaven, as a picture of living in blithe and leisure consumed his mind. An image of space, never ending space exhilarated him.

Far Hills Country Day School is a PreK-grade eight independent school that is guided by a dual mission to provide each child brilliant beginnings for success in the modern world through academic excellence and character development.  The school is situated on 54 acres in Far Hills, New Jersey.  The campus includes learning gardens, age specific computer labs and media centers, a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center, a large Athletics Center including a climbing wall, outdoor fields and tennis courts, a ropes course, meadows, ponds, and woodlands.
