TBA- TTO Raising for Research Walkathon
Tuesday, June 5, 2012 • 1:38pm
As the Temple B’nai Abraham Teen Tikkun Olam (TTO) teens met throughout the year to plan fundraising and social action events in the community it became a top priority to host a fundraising event that would raise money for the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Neuro-Oncology Research Fund in memory of Jill Holtz who passed earlier this year.
After months of planning and organizing, they held their first annual Raising for Research walkathon at the Livingston Oval, Robert Harp Drive. With registration fees, baskets bids, and online donations, the students raised over $9,500 which was almost double their initial goal of $5,000! With close to 75 participants who walked on a recent Sunday in the sun, rain, thunder, and downpour with Beat that Beat Entertainment playing music and pizza donations from local pizza vendors in the community, the event was a huge success!
Temple B'nai Abraham's Teen Tikkun Olam (TTO) group is made up of teenagers who have volunteered their time and action every month to performing community service projects in the local area. Led by Director Claudia Minde, TTO past projects have included the Couture for Crohn's Fashion Show, MLK day of community service, carwash, volunteering at Daughters of Israel, assisting at Temple B'nai Abraham community events, and more!
For information about the TTO, please contact Claudia Minde at 973-994-2290, ext. 247 or e-mail cminde@tbanj.org.
