The Millburn High School Orchestra & Chorus will perform their first commissioned piece, Harmony in Gold by composer Dale Trumbore, on Thursday, June 7 at 7:30pm. The premiere performance of this newly commissioned work will take place at Millburn High School, 262 Millburn Ave, Millburn, NJ.  Harmony in Gold is based on a poem by Barbara Crooker.   Written for full chorus and orchestra, the composition makes use of a full array of symphonic colors to paint with sound the poem’s carefully
crafted words.

“The students are finding it interesting and challenging to create and bring to life the descriptive nature of the composition,” said Karen Conrad, Orchestra Director. “All of the members of Orchestra and Chorus had the opportunity to talk to Dale through Skype sessions in April.  They were able to hear her ideas and ask questions about the piece and her life as a composer.”

An active composer on both coasts, Dale Trumbore has won numerous awards for her compositions, and her works have been performed by ensembles including the Kronos Quartet, the USC Thornton Symphony, the New York Virtuoso Singers, the Orange County Women’s Chorus, the Harmonium Choral Society, the Boston New Music Initiative, the Neave Quartet, and the Left Bank Chamber Society. Trumbore recently received her Master of Music in Composition from the University of Southern California, where she studied with Morten Lauridsen and Donald Crockett. Trumbore's dual interest in text and music often leads her to write music for voice, collaborating frequently with contemporary poets.
