Man Hurt During Varsity Road Robbery

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ—A robbery victim suffered an eye injury on Tuesday when two men attacked him on Varsity Road near South Centre Street. Police said the 22-year-old Newark man was accosted around 7 p.m.
In a March 15 robbery, an iPhone and cash were taken from a juvenile victim around 4:30 p.m. when he was walking on Fielding Court. The robber fled on foot. The victim told police the male, approximately 17 years old, threatened to punch him. No weapons were involved.

A 23-year-old Union resident was arrested on charges of assaulting her boyfriend at a residence on Cottage Street. Police responding to the call found Shayla Bullock threatening her boyfriend. She was carrying a knife.

The Essex County K-9 unit was called in to track the burglar or burglars who stole jewelry from a bedroom of a Mayhew Court residence. Police responded to a house alarm and found a window in the back door was broken. The police dog tracked the scent through several yards until losing it on Crest Circle. The incident occurred at 9:45 p.m. on March 17.

Erik Douds, 20, of South Orange was charged with underage possession of alcohol at approximately 9:30 p.m. March 17 when police saw him leave a Valley Street liquor store with alcohol.

A car thief stole a 2003 Subaru from Municipal Lot 5 sometime between March 14 and March 20. Police said the South Orange resident discovered the theft around 7 a.m. on March 20.
- The owner of University News Shop, Irvington Avenue, reported that someone had taken two stacks of newspapers left outside the door. He discovered the theft when he arrived at work at 6 a.m. on March 18.
