SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -  SPF Marching Band held their annual Banquet at La’Affair on Sunday evening.  At the end of every season, after the final performance, the drum majors organize this special event.

“It’s a formal event,” said Michael Lange, a member of the marching band.  “We all dress up and we present awards.  The sections leaders come up with awards to give to people that recognize something funny – like I am known as one of the few people who can tolerate our band teacher, to I got the “Tolerate Derand Award”.

After two years in the marching band, Michael and his twin brother David are avid participants in an extra-curricular activity that requires a lot of dedication.  This dedication paid off in October, when the band won first place in their division at the Yamaha awards.

The brothers originally became interested in the Marching Band when the SPF Band visited their middle school.  “Everyone seemed to love the band, and I wanted to get involved in something musical,” said Michael.

Members of the Marching Band will take a break over winter, and in the Spring they will begin practicing for the next season that will begin in the Fall of 2013.
