SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ – Residents of Scotch Plains who came downtown in the 50 degree weather to see the petting zoo, on rides and clown, may have been forgiven for thinking they had stumbled on a summer street fair.  However, Santa in the summerhouse and holiday decorations on the streetlamps soon had everyone in the holiday spirit.

A red fire engine brought Santa Claus to the Holiday Celebration in downtown Scotch Plains today. The Village Green was alive with kids of all ages. There was a clown and a magician. So much fun: with face painting, a petting zoo, pony rides, and a horse-drawn carriage.

Members of Girl Scout 352, from Scotch Plains Terrill Middle School, sung carols. The Scotch Plains Volunteer Firefighters served hot chocolate and handed out candy canes. The festive event was sponsored by The Scotch Plains Recreation Department and The Scotch Plains Business & Professional Association.

In Fanwood, the line for Santa was long, but there were free crafts and hot cocoa for everyone who was waiting.  Families could enjoy playing on the lawn of the train station, after telling Santa what they wanted for Christmas.

Both towns enjoyed the annual lighting of their respective trees at 5 pm, bringing the annual town holiday parties to a close.
