SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ- Where the restaurant Mezzagiorno used to be on Park Avenue in Scotch Plains is now Darby Road, a new Irish Pub style restaurant. The doors were officially opened at 6:30 Monday evening when Scotch Plains Mayor Mary DePaola cut the ribbon, along with the owners, three local “guys made good,” – Michael Brennan, Joseph Mortarula and John (Skip) Brandli.
Assemblywomen Linda Stender, Councilman Kevin Glover and an assortment of business owners were one hand to officially walk through the front doors after Father John Paladino of St. Bartholomew’s Church blessed the new business. Everyone enjoyed a variety of hors d'ouveres and on-tap beer.
“We really are excited and proud to be able to open and welcome local clientele into our new space,” said Michael Brennan. Wednesday evening is the first official day of business, with the restaurant open to the general public. Potato tacos, fish and chips and a special burger are just a few of the dishes awaiting the palettes of local lovers of Irish fare, with lunch being served from 11 to 2 pm and evening hours from 5 to 10:30 pm weeknights and later hours on weekends.
