RANDOLPH, NJ- While the snow and ice continue to pile up outside, the RHS swim team has been heating up the indoor pool this week. At the Morris County Swim Championships, the boys team finished third in the county, barely missing second by only 4 points.
The boys 200m Medley Relay took first place with a team of Henry Taibi, Matt Linz, Zach Sanders and Chris Vukas swimming to a new team record and qualifying for the NJ Meet of Champions ( NJ-MOC )
Matt Linz won two individual titles in the 50m Freestyle and the 100 m Freestyle, breaking records in both and qualifying for NJ-MOC in both. The 50m Freestyle record had stood since 1986.
The team of Chris Vukas, Steven Cheng, Henry Taibi, and Matt Linz also swam a new record in the 200m Freestyle Relay, and in the process qualified for NJ-MOC.
Both the boys and girls teams qualified for the states again this year. Only 8 teams in each section qualify, with each section totaling about 25 schools each.
The girls team will start their state tournament by facing Morristown on Thursday, Feb. 6. The meet will be 4:00 PM at Morristown High School. With a victory, they will swim again next Monday Feb 10.
