PATERSON, NJ - Police are investigating a shooting in the 5th Ward Saturday evening in which a 29-year-old man from Garfield Avenue was wounded twice in the back.

The victim, who is in stable condition at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, told authorities he was walking north on Rosa Parks Boulevard near 16th Avenue at about 5:05 pm when he passed a group of people who appeared to be arguing. After the victim walked past the group, he heard what he believed to be the screeching of car tires followed by what he believed to be four or five gunshots, according to police.

The victim told detectives he then saw what he described as a black four-door vehicle, possible a Dodge Intrepid, speeding north on Rosa Parks past him. Police say the victim immediately began running from the area and stopped near the corner of Van Houten and East 18 streets, where he saw some people that he knew. At that time, the man felt a burning sensation in his back and realized he had been shot, according to police.

Authorities are asking that anyone with information contact Det. Carlos Charon or Det. Rick Ferreira at the Paterson Police Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
