Man Shot Multiple Times in 1st Ward

PATERSON, NJ – A 24-year-old city man was shot multiple times Sunday evening while sitting in a parked vehicle near the corner of N. 7th Street and Belmont Avenue, police said.

The victim, who was wounded in the legs and upper body, is in guarded condition at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, according to police.

The victim was sitting in the vehicle at about 7 pm when two men walked toward him and at least one of them pulled a gun started shooting, police said.

The victim collapsed after getting out of the vehicle and the suspects then fled the area on foot, said Lt. Patrick Murray, head of the Cease-Fire unit.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact Detectives Edgar Taylor or Dave Tanis of the Paterson Police Cease-Fire Unit at 973-321-1342.
