PATERSON, NJ - A man using a machete and a rock attacked three teenagers who were inside a car on E. 28th Street at about 2:30 Sunday morning, police said.

The victims, who were 19- and 19-year-old city residents, told police the suspect used the machete and rock as weapons smashing the front, rear and side windows of the vehicle. They said they eventually were able to jump out of the car and escape, according to police.

One of the victims suffered an eye injury and is in stable condition at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, police said. It's not clear whether the injured man was hit with flying glass, the rock or the machete, said Lt. Richard Reyes.

Authorities are not sure what the motive was for the attack.

The case is being investigated by Det. Sgt. David Rios and Det. Steve Leishman. Police are asking that anyone with information about the incident contact the detectives at 973-321-1120.
