PATERSON, NJ – The city teachers’ union and school district are at odds over student breakfast program at School 8, according to a story on northjersey.com.

The story said the union, the Paterson Education Association, has filed a grievance on the grounds that educators at School 8 are not being paid the stipend they normally receive for supervising meals. The district asserts that classroom teachers are not being asked to perform any new supervisory functions as a result of the “Breakfast After the Bell” program, the story said.

Breakfast After the Bell is part of a literacy initiative being pushed by city education advocates. District officials had said they would expand the program to other city schools after the initial start at School 8. But so far, that has not happened.
