PATERSON, NJ - City government is inviting nonprofit groups to participate in Paterson's new "adopt-a-lot" program.
Under the program, Paterson would leave vacant city-owned lots to private groups for $1 for two years, allowing the groups to clean up the areas and create amenities like gardens.
Under the arrangement, Paterson has the right to terminate any of the leases by giving 90 days notice. Officials said that clause is designed to allow the city to continue seeking to market the empty spaces for potential development.
