PATERSON, NJ - Members of the Paterson Fire Officers Association (PFOA) and the Paterson Firefighters Association (FMBA Local 2) will once again set out to the streets to continue their annual “Boot Drive” this Saturday.

The money is used to fill Christmas lists for needy Paterson families. The union members collected what they called a record-breaking $11,000 last weekend.

Firefighters will be dressed in uniform station themselves at street corners within Paterson collecting monetary donations in their boots between 8 am and noon on Saturday. Last weekend’s success - collecting a record amount of money - has the members optimistic coming into Saturday.

“We witnessed a tremendous amount of support from gracious Paterson residents,” said Battalion Chief and PFOA President, Chuck Onorato in a press release. “The fundraiser is always well received in the community, but we were excited to learn that we successfully raised over $11,000.”

“Our expectations for this weekend have absolutely been raised,” says Carlos Pagan, President of the Paterson FMBA. “Another day similar to last Saturday will afford us the opportunity to really make a profound impact on these families and classrooms, we’re extremely grateful for how the City has embraced this drive.”

The PFOA and FMBA adopt a minimum of 25 separate families and classrooms, each of which makes a wish list. They money collected is distributed evenly and used to fund the requested supplies on the lists, providing much needed assistance.
