Report from Urban School Board Meeting

Dear Paterson Constituents:
I wish to report to you on the experience I had while attending my first NJSBA Urban School Board Committee Meeting.
First, I would like to say that as a new board member, it was truly a life-altering experience. It yielded the information I've been seeking since being elected to a board seat in April.
I was particularly impressed with the excellent presentation by Mr. Michael Vrancik. He haD a plethora of vital information about school funding, a topic that interests me greatly.
I feel strongly about learning all I can, garnering every tool, capturing every nugget of knowledge such that I may become the best Board Member I can be. Utilizing the sum of my abilities to serve you efficiently.
It felt so wonderful to be among other board members, from different districts, with different concerns and different questions.
I was fascinated at how quickly I received answers to my inquires. No one looked down on me or laughed when I made a comment.
There was a mutual respect for the offices we hold. Everyone gathered together truly behaved as one unit.
We were even able to nominate officers to serve unanimously and without arguing.
This experience has blessed me. It has renewed my strength, faith, courage and determination to rise above political mediocrity to a place of true advocacy.
I'm ready, more than ever, to make the personal changes needed to separate myself from any political opportunists so that I can be identified as a real grass roots leader.
