PATERSON, NJ – A city special education teacher at the Kennedy education complex has been suspended with pay after criminal charges were filed against him involving an incident at his home in Westwood late last year, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Thomas Tedesco, 62, has been charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and two counts of endangering a child. Tedesco, who has been a Paterson teacher for 26 years, allegedly fired a gun inside his home while his family was in the house, officials said.

Westwood Police Sgt. Rod Fortunat said he could not release details on exactly what happened because the November 2012 incident was classified as domestic violence. Maureen Parente, spokeswoman for the Bergen County prosecutor’s office, said the next step would be to present the case to a grand jury.

Tedesco’s suspension took effect on January 29, according to Paterson Public Schools spokeswoman, Terry Corallo.
