PATERSON, NJ - Authorities this morning were still trying to identify the man killed in a 3rd Ward shooting and they are investigating whether two other men who showed up at the hospital with gunshot wounds were involved in the same incident.
Police found the first victim laying on the ground in front of a house on E. 32nd Street near 11th Avenue at about 12:30 am Wednesday after they responded to reports of multiple gunshots in the area, according to a press release issued by the Paterson Police Department. The man, identified as an African-American in his mid- to late-20s, did not have any identification on him, police said.
The victim was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, where attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, police said. Authorities plan to check his fingerprints in an attempt to identify him.
Later in the night, two other victims arrived at St. Joseph’s, one who came by taxi and another by ambulance. Authorities said one of the men, a 23-year-old, was wounded in the abdomen and is in critical, but stable condition. The other is 25 years old and is in stable condition with a wound to the left shoulder.
Authorities released no information on what may have caused the shooting.
