Suspect Identified in Last Week's Murder Outside Chicken Shack

PATERSON, NJ - City police have filed murder charges against a  24-year-old Paterson man in connection with the July 1 shooting outside a 10th Avenue chicken shack.

Authorities have issued a warrant for the arrest of Steven Johnson, who they described as 6-feet, two inches tall and  210 pounds. His address is 249 18th Avenue.

Johnson is wanted on one count of murder in the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Clarence Jenkins. Authorities said Johnson wounded two other people in the incident, which happened at about 4:25 am outside the Crown Fried Chicken in the 4th Ward.

Johnson also has been charged with one count of unlawful weapon possession, three counts of possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of illegal possession of a gun.

The other two victims were treated at the hospital and released.
