Paterson's Taylor Carter Finishes First in Girl Scout Cookie Sales

PATERSON, NJ – A nine-year-old from Paterson sold more Girl Scout cookies than anyone else in North Jersey.

Taylor Carter sold 1,200 boxes of cookies, according to Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey.

Taylor, who recently celebrated her 9th birthday, is in Girl Scout Troop 94689 and has been a Girl Scout since 2010.

Taylor participates very actively in Girl Scouts, attending a variety of Girl Scout programs in Paterson, according to the oprganization. She has taken part in 100th Anniversary events, including our 100th Anniversary Bridging event at the George Washington Bridge in November and 100th Anniversary Candlelight Ceremony in March. She has even participated in a special Cablevision TV project that the Girl Scouts in Paterson have been putting together, where girls write, shoot, and edit half-hour cable access TV episodes that air on Cablevision’s local stations.

The other top sellers were Yoniah Hargrove, 12, of Hackensack, sold 1,126; Kaitlyn Kwan, 5, of Dumont, sold 1,084; Alexis Menzel, 11, of Park Ridge, sold 1,066; Isis Davis, 14, of Hackensack, sold 1,060; and Kayla Shears, 15, of Hackensack, sold 980 boxes of Girl Scout cookies.

This year, the top six sellers earned two free tickets and passes for celebrity meet-and-greets for The B.I.G. Concert, a 100th anniversary celebration hosted by the Girl Scout Councils of New Jersey on June 23 at Liberty State Park. Open to the public, the event will feature an evening concert from Grammy-nominated artist and celebrity judge on the hit show “The Sing-Off,” Sara Bareilles and pop star Joe Jonas of the band, The Jonas Brothers.  The lineup of daytime performances will feature “The X Factor” finalist and newly signed Nickelodeon star, Rachel Crow, as well as six other acts:

•         Recently signed New Jersey Boy Band, Goodbye Friday;

•         Girl group Bloom, whose songs have been featured on MTV’s “The Hills,” and whose past performances include the NCAA Fan Fest in Newark, N.J. and The Girl Scout Councils of N.J.’s Bridging Event;

•         The group Savvy (AKA: The Wannabes), a singing and dancing group signed to Universal Republic with an upcoming new single who have a TV show on STARZ’s Family Channel called The Wannabes;

•         Pop Singer, Stephanie Marie, with singles, “I’m That Girl” and “Turn It Up”;

•         Ani Hesse, Californian Girl Scout whose previous performances include singing the National Anthem at a Lakers game.

The day-long event will include 100 activities taking place at the historic and scenic Liberty State Park, which features 1,122 acres of open space and panoramic views of The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the New York Harbor. Activities include evening concerts by Sara Bareilles and Joe Jonas, daytime performances by Rachel Crow and local acts, a fireworks display over the New York Harbor, an arts and crafts pavilion presented by Joann Fabric and Craft Stores, a cooking pavilion including cupcake decorating classes and demos, a tech pavilion featuring the latest hands-on devices, more than a dozen bounce houses, rockwall climbing, and much more! All participants will also receive a commemorative BIG Concert event t-shirt. Sponsors include FLOMO, Joann Fabric and Craft Stores, Sports Authority, and EF Educational Tours.
