PATERSON, NJ - Police are investigating the shooting of a 44-year-old city man in front of a chicken restaurant early Wednesday morning.

According to Lt. Patrick Murray, the victim was shot in the right hip outside Hollywood Fried Chicken at 197 Broadway shortly before 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning. He was listed in stable condition at St. Joseph's Medical Center as of late Wednesday morning.

"It appears that the victim had just stepped out of the Hollywood Chicken Restaurant at that location," Murray said. "As the victim was attempting to re-enter the store, he encountered two males who were exiting the restaurant. As the two males were exiting the restaurant, one of the males produced a handgun and shot the victim once. The suspects then continued out of the store and walked north on Straight Street toward Fair Street."

Detectives were investigating whether there was a verbal or physical confrontation between the victim and the two suspects prior to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Rolondo Polio or Detective Edgar Taylor of the Ceasefire Unit at (973) 321-1342.
