WANTAGE TOWNSHIP, NJ  - The New Jersey State Police, and the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the death of Lake Neepaulin resident Virginia “Suzy” Sommer, age 73, who was found dead in her Valley View Trail home at about 9 p.m. on Thursday evening.

Sommer did not respond to calls from concerned friends on Wednesday night, and they asked for the police to perform a welfare check.

“The manner of death is determined to be homicide,” said Sussex County First Assistant Prosecutor, Gregory Mueller.

Mueller said Sommer’s death resulted from "multiple stab wounds."

In the meantime, Mueller could not comment on particular details of the case, as it is under investigation.

What he could say, however, was, “We do believe that the murder took place a significant time before she [Sommer] was found.”

In terms of the motive, Mueller added, “The motive is under investigation, and potential motives are under investigation. We are looking into each and every potential motive.”

Mueller said the person who murdered Sommer is considered dangerous, and though he recommends residents in the county should not panic, Mueller asked residents to remain cautious.

“There is a dangerous individual out in the community,” he said.

“We have all hands on deck, and experienced, and talented detectives all working on this,” Mueller said. “And no one will quit until there’s an arrest. We’ll get this case solved, but it will take some time.”

Mueller asked for anyone with any information on the crime, to please contact the New Jersey State Police, Sussex Station at: (973) 383-1514, or the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office at: (973) 383-1570. All calls to either agency are confidential.
