Friday At The Fair: Festivities Kick Off At The New Jersey State Fair/ Sussex County Farm and Horse Show

AUGUSTA, NJ - It was a day for family fun at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta on Friday, August 3. The fairgrounds were flooded with people and animals. Visitors attended the fair from around the county, state, and from outside of New Jersey flocked to the fairgrounds to enjoy the many scheduled events.
Friday kicked off what is planned to be several days of exciting entertainment, through August 12 for the New Jersey State Fair/Sussex County Farm and Horse Show.
There is a little something for just about everyone at the fairgrounds. Visitors can catch a ride on a monster-sized truck or a huge elephant. There are plenty of amusement rides too and places to eat with a variety of foods on the menu. For the more cerebral type or just scientifically curious, check out the robotics demonstration featuring the robotics team from Newton High School called Team Aperture. Team Aperture created a robot that can shoot hoops and perform other tasks.
One of the big draws at the fair are the monster trucks. The vehicles are the Webslinger and Extinguisher owned by Hackettstown, NJ resident Shawn Oblen. Oblen is a mechanic by trade and has been involved in the monster truck entertainment business for years.
Oblen said, "I own three monster trucks. The tires cost $3000 dollars a piece without the rims. People especially the kids like to ride. I have traveled all over the country with my trucks performing in shows."
Oblen has a farm with plenty of land to keep his huge fleet stored. The average garage and driveway would not be a good fit for these trucks.
For more information about Oblen's trucks and tours visit the website New Jersey Monster Trucks at http://www.njmonstertrucks.com/
Friday's warm weather attracted visitors from many places. Local businesses from Sussex County have sponsored the fair and have displays set up. Activities in the coming days at the fair will be the Queen of the Fair pageant, a strongman competition and much more.
