SOUTH ORANGE, NJ -- Mei Mei went to live with the Paul family in February. She was back at the Jersey Animal Coalition shelter on Tuesday -- but just for a visit.
Anna Paul and her friend Skylar Yarter, 9, both of Maplewood, brought the little white dog along when they stopped in to donate $330 to the shelter. The girls said they originally planned to spend their savings on accessories for their Americal Girl dolls. However, they decided to say "thank you" to the shelter that rescued Mei Mei.
Then Anna went one step further. "On my birthday, instead of presents, I asked for money" to donate to the shelter, Anna said.
Ruth Perlmutter, president of the JAC, accepted the donation and thanked the girls for their generosity.
