Young Men's A Capella Concert at Grace Madison

New Jersey Youth Chorus Young Men’s Ensemble

Friday, January 25, 2013 • 2:53pm

On Friday February 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in Madison, Drew’s acclaimed male a cappella group, 36 MadAve will present a concert in conjunction with the Grace Church Gargoyles and the New Jersey Youth Chorus Young Men’s Ensemble. The program is open to the community for a freewill donation at the door.

Formed in 1987 by four guys in a dormitory bathroom, 36 Madison Avenue was Drew University's first a cappella group. Though a few more have come along, "MadAve" is proud to be Drew's only all-male group. Over the past twenty years, MadAve has released six albums, competed and taken home awards twice at the International Championship of Collegiate a cappella, and been on numerous tours of the east coast. They host several concerts a semester, including Jamfest, one of the largest campus events of the year. MadAve performs a wide variety of music, with a repertoire that includes songs by Bruce Springsteen, Rufus Wainwright, Jamie Cullum, and much more. MadAve is well-loved for our tight harmonies, energetic performances, and off-beat brand of humor.

The Grace Church Gargolyes are a young men’s a cappella ensemble based at Grace Church, Madison, under the artistic direction of Dr. Anne Matlack and conducted by PJ Livesey, baritone, a 2005 graduate of The College of New Jersey and long-time member of the choir program at Grace, and new assistant Greg Paradis.  The dozen boys range in age from 7th to twelfth grade, including several American Boychoir School graduates, and representing several schools including  those in Madison,  Chatham Schools, Morristown and New Providence.  Their repertoire ranges from spirituals to sacred music, barbershop and popular.  In the 7 years since their founding, they have given acclaimed performances at community and diocesan events, and collaborated with, The Colgate 13, The Hermitage Ensemble of St. Petersburg, Russia, the Dukes Men of Yale, and Harmonium Choral Society.

The New Jersey Youth Chorus Young Men’s Ensemble is a group of talented singers from the New Jersey Youth Chorus program made up for tenors and bases in the 7th -12 grade, and  directed by Dr. Billy Baker, Assistant Professor of Music Education at the New Jersey City University Department of Music, Dance, and Theatre, and Director of Music at Germonds Presbyterian Church in New City, NY.
